After our book was approved in 1981, copyrights were granted in 1982, so the first printing was catalogued in the Library of Congress with Number 83-70346, under ISBN 0-912075-02-3. The First Edition was printed under the fictitious printing company originally named C.A.R.E. which stood for "Compassion, Action, Respect, and Empathy", but was later expanded to include Narcotics, Anonymous. There was only one printing, in March 1983, but there were 2500 numbered Red First Editions, which were pre-sold for $25 each, with an unknown number of additional numbered books. There was also an unknown number of red books that were un-numbered, of which many were handed out at the world convention, or kept at the office, to be discovered later. The regular release First Editions, which sold for $7.10, were un-numbered, and had blue covers. Dust jackets were not included with either color, but they were available upon request, so if you have one, that is a great piece of history. These are blue, with "Narcotics Anonymous" and "CARENA" printed in white, on the spine. The only thing more rare, than the dust jacket, in this edition, is the silver First Edition, of which only two are known to exist.
